Breakfast at Bressenden consists of a traditional cooked meal of bacon, chipolata sausages, eggs, tomatoes and mushrooms, in addition to fruit, muesli, granola, homemade (sourdough) bread, croissants, a selection of jams, marmalade and spreads, and homemade yogurt. Proper porridge, made with oat groats instead of rolled oats, is a popular choice in winter. You will be asked to fill in a form on arrival with your chosen time and menu items. The milk and butter are from the dairy farm in the neighbouring village of Benenden. The sausages are made in the nearby village of Rolvenden.
As I host only a small number of guests, certain food items need to be requested at least two days in advance. If you require any of the items in the list below, please let me know in good time and be as specific as you can.
- Skimmed or semi-skimmed milk
- Non-dairy milk or butter substitutes
- Low-fat butter
- Magarine or oil-based spread
- Vegan or plant-based sausages
Note also that cheese and cold meats do not feature in an English breakfast and will not be provided unless you request them one or two days before your arrival.
If you have a nut allergy, it is highly recommended that you bring your own cereals. All non-standard items have to be bought specially and are then thrown away after just one or two portions have been taken. The reported growth in the vegan or vegetarian market has not yet reflected itself among my clientèle, and no more than two or three guests per year request these items. It would therefore be much appreciated if you could bring your own supplies of special foods and I will be happy to store them in my refrigerator during your stay.
